The Quantum Choir is a heavy-folk ensemble dedicated to dissecting folk songs and ancient texts—both liturgical and profane. Its unique repertoire includes radical interpretations of devotional music from various cultures. The group, newly formed in Antwerp in the context of my research project, is a hub for performers of diverse backgrounds, curious about the clash between tradition and experimentation, and driven by the sonic spell of languages. Together we explore my song collection and vocal methods, contemplating and co-creating an idiosyncratic sound with uncompromising performative energy.
In October 2025, we presented the experimental program KENOSPHERA in Articulate Festival, where we shared our experiments, featuring mystical texts by 16th-century Spanish Carmelite nuns and their re-iteration through orally transmitted folk tunes, Iberian polyrhythms, and deconstructed medieval hymns.
Choir members: Aisha Pagnes, Alessia Squarcella, Anna Dehaene, Cèlia Tort Pujol, Daniel Poncela, Iris Veestraeten, Katelijne Malomgré, Kevin Voets, Koen Haagdorens, Lorraine Peschi, Marta Frigo, Nicholas Cornia, Pauline Lebbe, Sara Nygård, Sara Simionato, Sasa Ghanem-Chaney, Thomas Vandenabeele, Tomer Damsky.
