Art and research have a mysterious way of being constantly defined and re-defined in relation to one another depending on geography, (non)institutional context, style, trends, political and economical agenda, what not. I'm not an expert, though. I'm a musician, and a researcher. This sometimes goes together.
Some projects I've been involved in have a research component, or lean on a certain deep delve into sources way outside the purely aesthetic realm (if the borders of that realm exist). That happened less or more explicitly, depending on my motivation, but mostly on the funding, and context.
