THE QUANTUM CHOIR
The Quantum Choir is a vocal ensemble I have founded in 2021, walking on the rickety bridges between liturgical music of different traditions and a repertoire of a dark and heavy aesthetics. The choir's repertoire includes original arrangements and interpretations to works ranging from Late Medieval and Renaissance Polyphonic Motets and Provoslavic music to metal, drone, folk, and experimental music.
As the artistic director and conductor, I take a "leading through singing" approach, which makes the choir function more like a band than a traditionally-conducted ensemble. The members are non-professional singers from different backgrounds, performance and theater artists, electronic and metal musicians; most of them collaborators or former students of mine who generously gathered around my humble vision to create intense musical experiences for non-classical audiences. Together, without any choral experience and guided by an uncompromising passion for collective processes, we wonder about the functions of vocal music in defining moments of human existence and gather our performative resources from the unknown depths of consciousness.
Since its establishment, the choir has performed mainly in venues of art (The Israel Museum, MoBY: Museums of Bat Yam, The Museum of Italian Jewish Art), Theater and Dance (Autumn Cult Festival, HaZira; Diver Festival TLV), and recorded for international collaborations (Ars Electronica, Linz; BBC Radio 4).
