WACKELKONTAKT is the audiovisual trio founded by Marco Milevski Tomasin (drums & electronics), Eyal Lally Bitton (visuals & electronics) and myself (vocals & electronics).
It's what we like to see as a genre-defying project, playing on the borders between hip hop, industrial, power electronics, and Middle-Eastern pop. Attempts to define WK's singular sound resulted in definitions such as Psychotrap and Doom R&B, and our debut album (“Heal the Split”, Magia Roja, Barcelona 2020) was even acclaimed for “its dynamism and reluctance to stick to one genre or sound” (The Quietus).

CHANGE THE PROCESS: THE FILM

In an immersive esoteric workshop combining healing practices and performance techniques, one participant undergoes a process of transformation. An intense session of circular breathing sends her to a distant area of her consciousness, where she is taken through a sonic, poetic, and symbolic vortex. Thrown outside of the workshop space, she finds herself adrift in a series of songs and wild landscapes. It is there she is confronted with other, unknown, facets of herself, as fragmented reflections of the world around her.
The interdisciplinary industrial-pop trio Wackelkontakt introduces their debut 30-minute film, an audiovisual poem shot across four countries: the Black Forest snow, the evergreen groves of Eastern Belgium, the Andalucian desert, and the burnt forest of Jerusalem. Based on true events, the narrative is the poetic depiction of the spiritual journey undergone by one of the participants of an experimental workshop conducted by the band in 2021, when an adventurous group of people was invited for a session of therapeutic and performative practices while subjected to intense audiovisual stimuli. This cinematic exploration showcases the group's signature visual-sonic storytelling, mixing digital and analog techniques and fusing visceral docu-fiction, psycho-drama, mythopoetics, and religious symbolism. Its universe is set in the enchanted forest of ancient fantasies and proto-narratives: a liminal space of transformation, harboring both unknown dangers and a refuge from the world. A story unfinished and unfinishable, it moves from symbol to allegory; it comes and goes, crossing through various realms of the conceptual imagination, on a route spread over time and space, to be ultimately left pending.
“Change the Process” is part of a long-term multidisciplinary project involving cinematic and performative settings, that explores self-help and self-healing in the context of the common inability in our society to handle a layered and fractured identity. In the reproducible experiment, a group of people volunteer to participate in a series of therapeutic and performative exercises within the apparatuses of theatre and filmmaking, which encourage them to undergo a personal-collective transformation on camera. In this case, the resulting footage documents an imagined transformative journey of one of the participants. In ever-evolving ways to communicate with their audience, Wackelkontakt release the film alongside their new record with the same name.

Here is me conducting the wonderful string trio we've assembled i the studio for recording the album:
WHY AM I WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT I AM? (Leipzig, 2023)
A site-specific performance featuring a dedicated orchestra of motorcyclists which I had the privilege to conduct and compose for, in collaboration with ANTI collective and Kuhlewampe Motorcycle Club.
ORR SHINAI: SKIN OF MY TEETH (From AQUADOME Trilogy, 2023)
“Deluziot” concert series opening night, HaZira Theater, Jerusalem
Orr Shinai (“Skin of my Teeth”) is a textual adaptation of the famous existential lament from the Book of Job. I re-wrote it for my audiovisual trio WACKELKONTAKT as part of the performance “AQUADOME #3: A Crack in the Tank”, the final part of our AQUADOME trilogy, which tests the disciplinary character of the senses on the human consciousness. Through an experimental set of audiovisual stimuli, the material of the work is generated from within the spectators themselves, and the physical and mental luggage with which they enter. Through these stimuli we attempt to simultaneously conceal the sensory information and push it to its limit, and enable the supersensual information to sneak in and take control of the disciplined consciousness. Eventually, from within the stream of white noise and red strobes, emerges “Orr Shinai” as the cathartic ending of the audiovisual blast. Asking “Why then hast Thou brought me forth out of the Womb?”, it is a soulful lament inspired by Turkish Arabesque and Industrial Techno.

REREBIRTHING (2019)
A site specific A/V performance, The historical knight refectorium in the old city, Acco Festival of Alternative Theater 2019
Synopsis:
Captivated by their own spell and awaiting the change, an underground exhibitionist group of artists with improbable dreams is imprisoned in an audiovisual performance they created themselves. Disoriented with sensory overload, with an affectionate gaze in the eye, they are maneuvering and being maneuvered by a collection of insights about controlled consciousness, stimulation threshold and dysfunction. The dissonance between the chaos in the space and temptation it evokes is, perhaps, a reflection of the surreal environment portrayed in their life.
In this performance the audience confronts a brutal audiovisual flood that acts on all senses and has to decide whether to struggle or let the body immerse itself in the experience. The presence of the light and the image steals the spectator's awareness, as the thicket of smoke and frequencies moves the viscera and proves the existence of the body.
